Purpose of the Final Activity

This final activity allows you to bring together everything you have reflected on during the course. The goal is to create a practical leadership plan that you can use as a guide when facing future crises in your church, organisation, or community.

This is not an academic essay. It is your personal tool for leadership growth, written in your own words, based on your experience, and shaped by what you have learned from the course.

By completing this activity, you will:

  • Reflect on the challenges and lessons from each session.
  • Identify what you have learned about leadership, resilience, inclusion, and gender equity.
  • Plan the steps you will take as a leader in future crises.

What to Submit

Your final submission is your Leadership Reflection & Action Plan, written clearly and simply.

Word Count: 1000 to 1200 words.

Your submission should:

  • Combine your insights and reflections from Sessions 1 to 4.
  • Share your personal leadership lessons.
  • Present a practical action plan for leading in future crises.

Structure of the Submission

1. Introduction (150–200 words)

  • Describe your role and responsibilities in your church, organisation, or community.
  • Share what stood out most to you from the course or what challenged your thinking the most.

2. Reflections Summary (400–500 words)

Summarise what you learned from each of the four sessions. Use 1–2 short paragraphs for each:

  • Session 1 – Poly-Crisis: What did you learn about facing multiple crises at once? How has this changed your understanding of resilience?
  • Session 2 – Human-Made Crisis: How have leadership decisions (yours or others') worsened or improved a crisis? What does it mean to take responsibility as a leader?
  • Session 3 – Migration and Inclusion: How did this reflection change the way you see the role of migrants or outsiders during crises? What does inclusion mean in your context?
  • Session 4 – Gender and Leadership: What are the gender barriers in your context, and how do they affect crisis response? What change is needed?

3. Leadership Action Plan (400–500 words)

Describe what you will do differently as a leader in future crises. This is your action plan. Include:

  • One or two specific leadership actions or changes you will make.
  • Why these actions matter for your church or community.
  • How you will start making these changes.
  • How your actions support building resilience, inclusion, and responsible leadership.

Your actions could include:

  • Involving migrant voices or marginalised groups in crisis planning.
  • Creating leadership space for women during crises.
  • Taking action earlier instead of waiting for outside help.
  • Forming a local crisis response team that reflects your whole community.

Writing Guidelines

  • Use clear and simple language.
  • Write in your own words, as if speaking to another grassroots leader.
  • Focus on honesty and practical reflections, not formal or academic writing.
  • You may use bullet points in the Action Plan section if helpful.
  • Keep your word count between 1000 and 1200 words.

How to Submit

Choose one of the following ways to submit your Leadership Reflection & Action Plan:

  • Send your written plan as a PDF document to adriaan@ftlt.org.
  • Record your reflection as a voice recording (10–15 minutes max) and send it via WhatsApp to +27 82 770 5310.

Make sure your submission includes your full name.

Before You Submit, Check:

  • Your reflections cover all four sessions.
  • You have included your personal leadership lessons.
  • Your action plan is clear, realistic, and practical.
  • Your word count is between 1000 and 1200 words (if written).
  • Your submission is complete and ready to send.

Final Encouragement

This plan is yours. It is a living document, something you can return to, update, and use as you grow in leadership. Keep it close. Share it with those you trust.

Through this process, you are building the kind of leadership that helps create stronger, more inclusive, and resilient African communities, a vision deeply connected to Agenda 2063.

Your leadership matters. Thank you for taking this journey.
